Hangry Joe's — the name that Philadelphia's food lovers know by heart — was born in a cramped South Philly row house kitchen in the winter of 2018. Founder Joe Harrington, a former line cook with Nashville roots, was convinced the city deserved a hot chicken experience rooted in tradition but bold enough to stand alone. The hangry joe's story began with zero investors and zero guarantees — just a cast-iron skillet, a family cayenne blend, and unwavering conviction.
After months of refining the signature brine and perfecting the spice levels — from a gentle warmth all the way to our notorious "Inferno" tier — Joe opened a ten-seat pop-up at a Rittenhouse Square farmers market. The line wrapped around the block on day one and never really stopped.

The First Pop-Up
Joe Harrington sets up a ten-seat pop-up at Rittenhouse Square Farmers Market on a cold February morning. By noon, he's sold out. The hangry joe's legend begins.
Opening 28 S 20th Street
After eighteen months of pop-ups and catering gigs, Hangry Joe's opens its first brick-and-mortar on South 20th Street in Center City Philadelphia. Full menu, full fire.

Pivoting fast, we launch citywide delivery and a community meal program — providing over 8,000 free meals to frontline healthcare workers across the Philadelphia area.
